Developer chosen for Mequon Town Center project

Shaffer Development will purchase land for $1 from city

The City of Mequon has chosen Shaffer Development to create a mixed-use development adjacent to the Mequon Town Center in exchange for 13.4 acres of prime real estate land for $1.

Mequon-based Shaffer was the winning company, and is expected to begin developing The Heritage Commons just east of Mequon Road and Buntrock Avenue early next year.

Cindy Shaffer, owner of Shaffer Development, LLC, said her proposal creates a combination of retail, residential, community venues and green space, which are all designed to create an active and engaging space.

“I feel very fortunate to have this opportunity to create a legacy development in the City of Mequon,” Shaffer said in a statement. “It is a rare opportunity to be able to collaborate with adjacent properties and work in your home town.”

WiRED Properties, Milwaukee, and United Financial Group Inc., Mequon, were also considered for the project by the city’s Economic Development Board and the Mequon Common Council.

Shaffer is currently working on The Lumberyard 1505, a 72-unit mixed use project in the Village of Grafton slated to start this spring.

The Mequon development will likely be similar to the Mequon Town Center development, which is located immediately east of this property and nearly complete.

Mequon Town Center, which is being developed by WiRED Properties, includes 36,000-square-feet of retail and commercial space and a 28-unit high-end apartment. Tenants at the Mequon Town Center include Colectivo Coffee, Café Hollander, The Ruby Tap and Elements Massage.
