Sandwich chain considers other downtown options

Cousin's on Old World Third has closed.

Menomonee Falls-based Cousins Subs has closed its Old World Third location near the BMO Harris Bradley Center in downtown Milwaukee.

The company said the 2,222-square-foot store at 1001 N. Old World Third St., that has been open since 2002, did not fit into its rebranding strategy that was announced last year. Cousins’ is considering another location, possibly within the new Milwaukee Bucks arena district development or in downtown Milwaukee.

“As with all lease renewals, we carefully evaluate the existing site and its future opportunity,” said Justin McCoy, vice president of marketing for Cousins. “With the new arena development to the north and our inability to install our signature grill and fryer at this site, we made the decision to close and are exploring other opportunities both in the new arena development district and downtown.”

The Old World Third Street building that Cousins was located in is owned by John Hinkel Building, LLC, which is registered to Lance Lichter, of Cedarburg.

The building is assessed by the city of Milwaukee for $676,000.

Earlier this month, Cousins announced expansion plans for stores in Wisconsin and Illinois as part of its rebranding and growth strategy and had signed three new franchisee groups to join the system.
