City parking space deal proposed for Aloft hotel

The Aloft hotel in downtown Milwaukee would rent up to 100 parking spaces from the city in the Highland Parking Structure, under a proposal filed by city officials this week. The deal is subject to approval by the Common Council.

The Aloft hotel, located at 1230 N. Old World Third St., does not own any off-street parking spaces. Under the proposed deal with the city, the hotel would pay $70 per month, per parking space, for 100 parking spaces located on the first and second level of the city-owned parking structure at 324 W. Highland Ave.

If the number of spaces used is lowered to 61 to 80 spaces, then the rent will be $80 per space per month. If the total number of spaces rented is lowered to 60 or fewer, the city will charge the hotel the same monthly rates as the general public.

The 980-space Highway Parking Structure was built by the city to provide parking for the Bradley Center and surrounding area. The city owns and operates the structure.
