Move part of planned transition for retiring Glaister

Charter Manufacturing announced today that Bob Venable will become the company’s president and chief operating officer following the retirement of Tom Glaister later this year.

Venable currently serves as president of the Mequon-based metals manufacturer’s Charter Steel division.

“Bob Venable is a respected leader at Charter, and his track record embodies our values and our culture of employee engagement,” said John W. Mellowes, Charter Manufacturing chief executive officer.

Venable joined Charter in 2013 after working at Robert W. Baird & Co., Procter & Gamble, and M&M/Mars.

Glaister’s retirement is effective July 1. He joined Charter as president in 2000 and the company has more than doubled in size and expanded internationally during his tenure. Mellowes said he “has been an incredibly important leader within the Charter family.

“We thank Tom for his many years of service, his strong leadership and his assistance through this planned transition. We are glad to have is input as Bob moves into this key role,” Mellowes said.

Charter has more than 2,000 employees across its four business: Charter Steel, Charter Wire, Charter Automotive and Dura-Bar. The company has operations in Wisconsin, Ohio, Illinois, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, the United Kingdom, and China.
