Genesee Depot-based spring water bottler and beverage distributor Century Springs Water Co. has acquired West Bend-based Green Bay Glacier Co. from A.J. Lambo. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Green Bay Glacier, which also bottles water, had six employees, all of whom remained on board in the transaction. Lambo will also become a Century Springs employee, in a sales and marketing role. Its Genesee Depot facility will remain open for the time being, Lambo said.
Century Springs now has 28 employees. It bottles, labels and delivers spring water and also delivers gourmet coffee. Its 19-county service area stretches from Kenosha in the south to Door County in the north, and west to Dane County. The company sources its water from a natural spring.
The acquisition will provide additional capacity for the quick-growing Green Bay Glacier, Lambo said.
“We are a fully-fledged USDA manufacturing company,” he said. “We actually manufacture everything here; we have a natural spring. I was getting to the point at Green Bay Glacier where I just needed more infrastructure.”
Century Springs is already in the process of adding a large bottle cleaning and sanitizing machine at Green Bay Glacier, and also has added a fleet of trucks for the facility.
The combined company also will be able to expand its geographic footprint beyond Wisconsin and into other Midwest states, the companies said in a statement. Included in the deal are the Green Bay Glacier tradename, as well as others including Alpine Springs.
Green Bay Glacier’s growth has been driven by consumers seeking the healthiest and safest food and beverage options available, Lambo said. Situations such as the Flint, Mich. water crisis have also contributed to increased demand.
“In this country, we’ve had a major food revolution,” he said. “What people forget is that water is the number one food consumed each day.”
“With the combined efforts of Century Springs and Green Bay Glacier, we anticipate future growth of this company into a major player in the bottled water market for the Midwest region,” said Jon Ove, president of Century Springs. “I believe that the culture of Century Springs—product quality, product safety and the highest possible service for customers—is exactly what consumers are looking for.”
