Carroll University in Waukesha is moving forward with the second phase of its campus renovation project, which includes replacing Lowry Hall, one of the school’s most prominent buildings along Barstow Street.

The proposed Lowry Hall project involves demolishing the existing 21,000-square-foot building and replacing it with a 36,000-square-foot lab and classroom building to serve the nursing, physics/engineering exercise science programs, according to documents filed with the city.

The planned new building is designed with two floors above grade, a partially exposed lower level, and a screened rooftop enclosure to house mechanical equipment. A rooftop penthouse  is also being planned, if the budget allows.

No new parking will be added with the project.

The plans submitted to the city did not include a budget for the project. University officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

The replacement building will be in the same location as the existing Lowry Hall and will connect to the new $24 million science building the university currently has under construction.

That 44,500-square-foot building replaced Maxon Hall, which was demolished in January 2015 as part of phase one of the university’s renovation project.

The Lowry Hall replacement building will be connected to the new science building on all floor levels, according to documents submitted by the university.

The Waukesha plan commission will review the plans April 13.
