Carroll University will open the Carroll University Center for Graduate Studies this fall. The center will host classes for the graduate phase of the physical therapy program, masters of business administration (MBA) and masters of software engineering. The center also will host some graduate classes in education.
Carroll acquired the 50,000-square-foot property last August for $2.4 million after leasing the building.
“It (expansion) fits with the growth of our graduate studies at the institution,” said Jane Hopp, dean of the division of natural and health sciences at Carroll University. “The diversity of majors and disciplines will interact at the center. Having them together will allow programs to interact and professional disciplines to interact.”
The building is located at 2140 Davidson Road, Waukesha, about three miles east of Carroll’s main campus.
“It (Davidson) is a fantastic property and we have all been impressed with the transformation,” said Charles Byler, interim vice provost at Carroll University. “It is conveniently located by the interstate as most of our graduate students are commuters.”
The building has been vacant for several years and was formerly an AT&T call center. Carroll University has transformed it into a learning center comprised of 12 general purpose classrooms, two large labs, three conference rooms, a computer lab, seven faculty offices and two staff offices on the first floor.
“Unlike most centers, we will offer a variety in the types of classrooms that gives us a more forward look at unique ways to utilize for teaching,” Byler said.
The lower level of the building will house a 120-seat auditorium, bio-physiology lab, distance education classroom and computer lab, six faculty offices and a lounge for students and staff.
“The instructional labs created at this facility have the mobility and the rehabilitation needed for the health sciences and the medicine needed for the developing masters in physician assistant program,” Hopp said.
According to Hopp, the facility will have patient exam rooms with video capabilities allowing faulty to utilize the space to test students’ skills and for presentation use.
According to Byler, Carroll plans to offer programs for the Carroll University Center for Leadership Excellence and host community events at the new facility.
