Dylan Hoffman, a seven-year-old boy from the Prairie School in Racine, was named the national winner of this year’s Doodle 4 Google competition. His efforts have earned him a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 technology grant for his school.
His doodle is being displayed on the Google homepage today and will also be featured on a special edition of Crayola 64 Box crayons. Hoffman’s description reads, “If I could travel in time, I’d visit Pirate Times. I would like to sail a pirate ship looking for treasure, have a colorful pet parrot and enjoy beautiful sunsets from deserted islands.”
The annual competition, open to K-12 students across the country challenged students to design a Google logo inspired by the theme “If I could travel in time, I’d visit…” Entries in this year’s competition reflected a fascination with technology in the future and a curiosity with the past. Hoffman’s image was selected from over 114,000 entries.
All 50 State Finalists in the contest will have their doodles displayed in a special exhibit in the New York Public Library from today until Thursday, July 19. In addition, each state’s best doodles will be exhibited at local museums across the country over the summer.
The public voted in record numbers for their favorite doodle from the 50 State Winners. The National Finalists were determined from public voting, and Google then chose Hoffman as the National Winner.
