Business price listings up from last year

In an analysis of 75 Milwaukee area businesses listed on the business-for-sale site bizbuysell.com, the median asking price is $275,000, up from $255,000 a year ago. The median cash flow is $84,000, up from $80,000 a year ago.
The median revenue of listed Milwaukee businesses is $373,000, down from $388,149 last year. Nationally, bizbuysell.com reported median revenue was $340,000 for businesses sold on the site, down from $361,274 a year ago.
That revenue decline may not point to struggling businesses, but suggests smaller companies are being sold, said Mike Handelsman, group general manager for BizBuySell.com and BizQuest.com.
"While median revenue has decreased slightly, median cash flow and median sale price figures have both remained virtually flat," Handelsman said of the national trend."So, smaller, profitable businesses are likely being sold and helping to drive the increase in closed transactions."
