Burger King replacing Sonic in Oak Creek

Former Sonic restaurant sold for $1.1 million

The former Sonic restaurant in Oak Creek has been sold for $1.1 million to a Chicago-based company planning to convert the space into a Burger King.

Sonic, 8081 S. Howell Ave., near Drexel Town Square, closed recently, citing the cost of the company’s lease. It sold the restaurant to Cave Enterprises Inc., a group of chain fast food resturants.

Oak Creek city administrator Gerald Peterson said Burger King is planning to open in the space and is working with the city to remodel the existing restaurant to add indoor seating.

Sonic opened in Oak Creek in 2009.  The burger chain still has two restaurants in the Milwaukee area, in Greenfield at 4763 S. 27th St., and in West Milwaukee, at 2080 Miller Park Way.
