The design/build team of Beyer Construction, of New Berlin, and Engberg Anderson Design Partnership, of Milwaukee, have finished work on the new Waukesha Civic Theatre. The former Pix movie theater in downtown Waukesha is being converted for the Civic Theatre’s new home.
The Civic Theatre has outgrown its aging building at 506 N. Washington Ave., which has 136 seats. The Pix movie theater was acquired as a donation for the new facility in 1997. Costs to convert the building are estimated at around $1 million, supported by a capital campaign.
The existing Pix movie theater is being completely gutted and a 9,700-square-foot, three-level addition will be built on the tack of the building, including a basement and two floors. The resulting Waukesha Civic Theatre will include a 280-seat theater, stage area, scene shop, rehearsal space with seating for 60, dressing rooms, conference room, administrative offices, concession, corridor/gallery, and lobby.
Construction has begun on the new $1.2 million corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility for Centrisys Corp., currently of Libertyville, Ill. The firm will move all of its operations to Kenosha in January when the new facility will be completed. Bukacek Construction, of Racine, is the design/build contractor for the project.
The one-acre project site is in the Business Park of Kenosha at 9586 – 58th Place. Phase I will be 20,000 square feet, with 3,200 square feet of offices and the balance manufacturing. Future phases are planned for facility expansion.
Centrisys was founded in 1987 by Michael Kopper. It currently has 11 employees and $6 million in annual sales. The company expects to double the number of jobs in Kenosha in the year 2000. Kopper selected the Kenosha site in order to locate closer to major vendors in southeastern Wisconsin. In addition, Bukacek’s cost of constructing a building in Wisconsin is lower compared to Illinois. Finally, the overall package that was offered by Wispark and the Kenosha Area Business Alliance was very attractive, he said.
The project design/build team is made up of Bukacek Construction and Butterfield, Rudie & Seitz Architects.
Selzer-Ornst Co., of Wauwatosa, has completed the expansion and renovation of Olsten Staffing Services in Wauwatosa. The new offices add to Olsten’s locations in West Allis and in Brookfield.

  • Selzer-Ornst Co. has been selected to construct the new Golf Galaxy building at 19030 W. Bluemound Road. The new retail outlet will feature 17,000 square feet of golfing supplies, a pro shop, golf simulators, and a club repair center. Construction began in August. Rick Blommer of CityScape Architects has completed the architectural drawings, which incorporate decorative masonry and stone to blend in with the adjoining Galleria West shopping center.
    Briohn Building Corp., Pewaukee, constructed a 5,500-square-foot office and production tenant space buildout at W231 N2811 Roundy Circle East, Suite 300, Pewaukee, for Q2 Graphics.
  • Briohn Building has been chosen by Orthopedic Systems, to construct a 20,000-square-foot office and warehouse tenant space buildout at 1115 Cottonwood Ave., Hartland. Occupancy is scheduled for early 2000.
  • Briohn Building has been chosen by Karl’s Rental Center, 6050 S. Howell Ave., to construct offices at its 50,000-square-foot warehouse, 7430 S. 10th St., Oak Creek, to become its party rental staff headquarters.
    McCloud Construction, Brookfield, has been selected by Gabaldon Properties of Milwaukee to complete a 6,000-square-foot retail store in Menomonee Falls. The building, located on Appleton Ave. and Premier Lane, will house the newest Blockbuster Video in the area. Completion is set for mid-September.
  • McCloud Construction has provided construction services to remodel the old Computer City in Brookfield. The store, located at 18605 W. Bluemound Road, houses the latest Office Max to come to the area.
    Metal-Era Inc., Waukesha, selected MSI General, Oconomowoc, for the design and construction of a 25,000-square-foot addition to its facility at 1600 Airport Road, Waukesha. The addition will increase the building’s total square footage to 80,000 square feet. Metal-Era Inc. is a national manufacturer of metal edge systems for the commercial roofing industry. The company started in business in 1980 and presently has approximately 40 employees.
  • Professional Systems, Inc. (PSI), Hartland, has selected MSI General for the design and construction of a 15,000-square-foot warehouse and manufacturing addition to its facility located at 650 E. Industrial Drive. PSI manufactures pre-fabricated buildings and cabinets for the communications and utility industries.
  • Mequon United Methodist Church, 11011 N. Oriole Lane, Mequon, has selected MSI General for the renovation of its worship area. The church was founded in 1948 and moved to its present 10-acre site in 1961. The sanctuary was renovated in 1978 following a fire in the church that destroyed much of the sanctuary. Current renovation work is designed to recapture the church’s original “colonial” architecture.
    Suburban Construction, of Richfield, is the construction manager for the Equestrian Center at the new Washington County Fairgrounds. The facility, in the Town of Polk, will be completed in time to be utilized at the 2000 fair.
    Phase one of this facility will consist of a pleasure-horse barn, a draft-horse barn and a judging office with view platform for the outdoor rings. The two barns will each cover just over 11,000 square feet with an additional 1,800 square feet of covered space for wash racks and grooming. The pleasure-horse barn will incorporate features that will make it usable during the winter months after the indoor riding facility is built in Phase Two.
    Anderson-Ashton, New Berlin, was awarded a contract by Silkscreening by Will in Milwaukee to design and construct a new 8,710-square-foot facility located at 10135 W. Hampton Ave. This facility shall replace its previous building destroyed by fire. The new facility will provide space for retail operations for custom silkscreening and embroidery of clothing items.
  • Anderson-Ashton is designing and building a 1,000-square-foot improvement to K.C.’s Country Home in the Brookfield Square mall.
  • Anderson-Ashton is designing and building a 3,750-square-foot day-care center for Zion Evangelical Lutheran School at 3600 S. Chicago Ave. in South Milwaukee.
    The Union Grove branch of Marquette Savings Bank is in the process of a $300,000 renovation which is expected to be completed by Oct. 15. Located at 1101 Main St., the bank is expanding its drive-up operations, modernizing offices and lobby area, and updating its other customer amenities including parking, street access and night depository services. As part of the improvements, the bank’s Tyme machine will be a drive-up feature.
    Irgens Development Partners, Wauwatosa, has broken ground on three speculative multi-tenant buildings: a Class A office building in Wauwatosa, a light industrial building in Milwaukee and an office building in Mequon.
    Wood Lake III is a 69,000-square-foot, single-story office building located in the Milwaukee County Research Park at Mayfair and Watertown Plank roads. The Class A building is scheduled for completion in October and is being financed by St. Francis Bank of Milwaukee. C.G. Schmidt Inc. is the general contractor.
    Phase II of the North Avenue Commerce Center is scheduled for completion in January. The 55,000-square-foot, multi-tenant light industrial building is a public/private joint venture with Irgens Development Partners, Williams Development Corp., and the City of Milwaukee. Firstar Bank of Milwaukee is providing financing and Williams Construction Co. is the general contractor.
    East Mequon Corporate Center VI is a 26,500-square-foot, two-story office building located in Mequon along I-43. The Prairie-style office building is scheduled for completion in October and is also being financed by St. Francis Bank. The Sports Medicine Institute of Sinai Samaritan Hospital is the anchor tenant.
    EPIC of Wisconsin, a creative and technical communications company, is currently constructing a new facility. The new building, located at 3014 E. Progress Drive, West Bend, measures 8,640 square feet and will include a 50′ by 30′ hard cyclorama, a complete studio-quality kitchen, and two full editing suites with avid editing capabilities, all available for rent. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of September. Until then, business will continue at their current location, 600 E. Progress Drive, West Bend.
    Associated Bank has selected the Wauwatosa-based architectural firm Torke Wirth Pujara to design a one-story, 1,100-square-foot addition and remodel existing space for its facility in Jackson. The building will also feature a new drive-up Tyme machine. A.J. Heinen Inc., of New Berlin, is the construction firm for the project.
