Schwalbach is Mount Mary College’s new president
Eileen Schwalbach, Ph.D., has been named president of Mount Mary College, a four-year Catholic college for women in Milwaukee.
Schwalbach has been the college’s acting president since September 2008, when Linda Timm, Ph.D., resigned from the position. Schwalbach will be the college’s 11th president since its founding in 1913.
Schwalbach has more than 35 years experience in education and has been with Mount Mary College since 1993, when she began working with future teachers in the Education Department. During her tenure, she has held a variety of positions as a faculty member and administrator, serving as director of the graduate education program, associate dean for academic and student affairs, vice president for academic and student affairs and, most recently, provost, prior to her appointment as acting president.
Since joining Mount Mary, Schwalbach has helped to create and lead three multimillion-dollar programs that have been instrumental in the college’s growth and have reached out to the community to raise Mount Mary’s visibility.
Before joining Mount Mary, Schwalbach was with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee as an adjunct instructor and supervisor of student teachers. She also worked with Milwaukee Public Schools as a teacher facilitator, curriculum coordinator, department chair and English teacher.
Schwalbach has set a number of goals for the college, including increasing enrollment to 2,000 by 2013, which will mark Mount Mary’s 100th anniversary. She also intends to focus on supporting transformational educational programs that prepare students to be leaders for social justice.
Milwaukee Mile hires new promoter
Wisconsin Motorsports LLC has signed an agreement to retain promoter rights at The Milwaukee Mile motor speedway in West Allis.
The Milwaukee Mile will host the stars of the IndyCar Series the Sunday following the Indianapolis 500 on May 31, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and NASCAR Nationwide Series events on June 19-20 and the return of Wisconsin NASCAR superstar and 2009 Daytona 500 champion Matt Kenseth in a special Wisconsin All-Star 100 super late model event on Aug. 29.
The new promoter agreement ensures the near-term and long-term future of auto racing at "America’s Legendary Oval."
All previously purchased tickets for 2009 events at The Milwaukee Mile will be honored.
Wisconsin Motorsports is led by president and chief executive officer Claude Napier, who has signed a new license agreement with the Wisconsin State Fair Park Board for an initial term of 10 years, with the option of up to 30 years.
"We are extremely motivated in continuing the heritage of auto racing at America’s Legendary Oval, The Milwaukee Mile," Napier said. "It has been a pleasure working with the Wisconsin State Fair Park Board through this process, and collectively, we are committed to ensuring race fans that have been coming to The Mile for generations will continue to enjoy world-class and grass roots auto racing events in 2009 and beyond."
The Wisconsin State Fair Park Board elected to terminate the promoter license agreement it held with former promoter Milwaukee Mile Holdings LLC on Feb. 12.
Jansen is new executive director of Community Shares
John Jansen has been named executive director of Community Shares of Greater Milwaukee, according to an announcement made today by Marilyn Boeldt, board president.
Jansen had served as interim executive director since July and as outreach director for six years prior to that. In that role, he managed workplace giving campaigns for the organization.
"John has done a fantastic job with building our workplace giving, and we’re confident that he’ll continue to excel in his new role," Boeldt said.
Before joining Community Shares, Jansen worked for the Wisconsin Innkeepers Association. He resides in Glendale with his wife, Annie Jurczyk, who is development director of the Milwaukee Repertory Theater.
