TDS executive will be treasurer of national trade association

The national trade association for the competitive local telecom industry recently elected James Butman as treasurer for a two year term. Butman, currently a member of the COMPTEL Board of Directors, is the group president of marketing, sales and customer operations for Madison-based TDS Telecommunications Corp., of which TDS Metrocom is a subsidiary. Butman joined TDS in 1985 as a member of the Government and Regulatory Affairs department. During his tenure at TDS, he has held a variety of executive leadership positions in many areas of the company.

LISC names new co-chairs

LISC (Local Initiatives Support Corp.) Milwaukee, a nonprofit organization that provides loans, grants, equity investments as well as technical and management assistance to help rebuild Milwaukee’s neighborhoods, announced the appointment of Mark Lemke, and Catherine Madden as the new co-chairs of its board of directors.Both individuals have been on the board for two to three years and most recently have served on the LISC Executive Committee and Credit Committee. The board, consisting of volunteers from the city’s corporate and foundation sectors, approves investment decisions and provides strategic and policy direction for LISC’s work in revitalizing Milwaukee neighborhoods. LISC, the nation’s leading community development support organization, has been working in Milwaukee since 1995.

Lemke is vice chairman and chief executive officer of The PrivateBank-Wisconsin, and Madden came to Milwaukee in 2006, when her husband, Jeff Yabuki, was named CEO of Brookfield-based Fiserv Inc. Madden has been involved with several organizations in the community. She previously was a senior executive with American Express in Minneapolis.Lemke and Madden will succeed outgoing LISC chairman Michael Weiss, who is president of the General Capital Group LLP. Under Weiss’ watch, LISC invested more than $10 million in Milwaukee’s underserved neighborhoods.

Barry is new chairman of Public Policy Forum

The Public Policy Forum board of trustees voted at its annual meeting Thursday to install Milwaukee commercial real estate broker James T. Barry III as its new chairman. The Public Policy Forum is an organization dedicated to nonpartisan research on public policy issues affecting southeastern Wisconsin.

Barry, who has been a Forum vice chair for the past four years, succeeds F. William Haberman, an attorney with Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, who is stepping down after three years. Barry, 44, is president of Milwaukee-based Colliers Barry, one of the region’s largest commercial real estate brokerage firms. He has been involved in hundreds of local industrial, office, and investment transactions, including the 1997 sale/leaseback of the Briggs & Stratton Vanguard Engine facility to Harley-Davidson Inc. and the 2008 sale/construction/leaseback deal involving We Energies/First Industrial/QuadGraphics, both of which won the "Deal of the Year" award from the Commercial Association of Realtors of Wisconsin.

Concordia names chairman of new School of Pharmacy

The Concordia University Wisconsin School of Pharmacy selected Dr. Mike Brown to oversee its new Department of Pharmacy Practice.

Brown is a native of Wisconsin and currently an associate professor of pharmacy practice at the University of Minnesota School of Pharmacy. As chairman, Brown will develop the Concordia pharmacy school’s faculty, which will include some of the pharmacists practicing in southeastern Wisconsin. Brown will start at Concordia in July. "We’re thrilled to have Dr. Brown join us as the start date for the School of Pharmacy approaches," said Dean Arneson, academic dean of the Concordia School of Pharmacy.The newly school also announced the hiring of Doug Meyer, currently assistant director of pharmacy services at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, as the director of experiential learning. Meyer’s responsibilities will be to develop and coordinate the extensive clinical sites that will be used for student rotations during their training at the school.
