Bryant & Stratton College will introduce sports programs to its Wisconsin campuses as its Wisconsin schools join the National Junior College Athletic Association next fall.
The college, which has campuses in downtown Milwaukee, Wauwatosa and Glendale among others across the country, will first enroll men’s basketball, women’s basketball and men’s golf into the NJCAA Region 4 and will enroll at least five other sports by 2020.
Teams – under Bryant & Stratton College’s Bobcats mascot – will compete at the Division II level, which will enable the school to dole out athletic scholarships to student athletes.
Within the sports programs’ first two years, the college will look into joining a conference of other Division II teams.
After appointing an athletic director, Greg Brandner, Bryant & Stratton College is searching for coaches for both men’s and women’s basketball and men’s golf. Each coach, which Brandner aims to hire this month, will help build each program, recruit student athletes and extend the school’s presence in the community.
Brandner also said that the new sports programs will boost Bryant & Stratton’s attraction and retention efforts as well as its school spirit and profile across southeastern Wisconsin.
“Being the only Division II junior college basketball program in Wisconsin will allow us to retain many local student athletes that are seeking to compete at a higher level while earning a college degree,” Brandner said in a press release.
Student athletes will be able to pursue their studies at any of the school’s three local sites.
Bryant & Stratton College also has sports programs at some of its campuses in New York and Virginia.
