BRP is recalling 2,380 of its 2017 Can-Am Maverick X3 side-by-side off-road vehicles because of an issue that can cause loss of steering control, according to an alert issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The units were manufactured in Mexico and imported by BRP U.S. Inc. of Sturtevant. BRP itself is headquartered in Quebec, Canada.
The company discovered the steering rack and pinion assembly can have an improper amount of grease. There have been a total of 33 incident reports, including intermittent or complete steering lock. No injuries have been reported as a result.
The recall covers the Maverick X3 STD, XDS and XRS. The units were sold at Can-Am dealers nationwide between August and November. Consumers should stop using the vehicles and contact a dealer for a free repair. BRP is also notifying consumers.
BRP’s manufacturing facility in Sturtevant makes Evinrude outboard engines. The company also recently opened a training center at the facility for all BRP brands.
The company did not immediately respond to a request for additional comment on the recall.
