Milwaukee-based Briggs & Stratton Corp. today announced it has developed a potent new fuel preservative to fend off the potentially damaging effects of ethanol-blended fuels while keeping fuel fresh for up to three years.
The blend is intended for use in gas engines used only periodically, such as lawn mowers, trimmers and other outdoor power equipment.
Briggs & Stratton Advanced Formula Fuel Treatment & Stabilizer protects any gas engine, including two-cycle engines such as those on string trimmers and chain saws that run on a gasoline/oil blend.
The product protects engines from the harmful effects associated with ethanol fuel blends which now account for nearly 90 percent of all fuel sold in the U.S., according to the Renewable Fuels Association. Ethanol-blended gas can break down in the fuel tank causing rust, corrosion, gum/varnish build-up and ultimately engine damage.
Protecting engines from ethanol-blended gasoline is especially important in equipment that is used intermittently or infrequently, such as lawn mowers, generators, outboard motors and recreational vehicles. The longer these blended fuels sit in the fuel tank, the more damage they can do, resulting in starting issues, rough running and even severe engine damage.
“Fuel begins degrading almost the moment you pump it,” said Eric Risse, fuel systems engineer at Briggs & Stratton. “Ethanol-based fuels are particularly damaging because they attract moisture which eventually separates from the fuel, forming a layer of ethanol-enriched water at the bottom of the tank where it does its damage.”
Briggs & Stratton Advanced Formula Fuel Treatment & Stabilizer combines a “triple antioxidant” formula with additional ingredients to protect the entire fuel system.
The Advanced Formula Fuel Treatment & Stabilizer is available in a .5 ounce pouch and 4, 8 and 16 ounce plastic bottles. For more information on the Advanced Formula Fuel Treatment & Stabilizer and other Briggs & Stratton service products for outdoor power equipment, visit www.briggsandstratton.com.
