The Bon-Ton Stores Inc., which has dual headquarters in Milwaukee and York, Pennsylvania, announced today it will hire 13,000 employees to staff its stores during the holiday season, as well as 500 e-commerce fulfillment and distribution employees.
Bon-Ton operates 267 Bon-Ton, Boston Store, Bergners, Carson’s, Elder-Beerman, Herberger’s and Younkers brand department stores, furniture galleries and clearance centers in 26 states.
Bon-Ton’s hiring figures are the same as for the 2015 holiday shopping season.
Menomonee Falls-based Kohl’s Corp. also recently announced it has started hiring more than 69,000 employees for the holiday season.
Those employees will staff its more than 1,100 stores in 49 states, as well as its credit operations and distribution and e-commerce fulfillment centers. Kohl’s said the hiring figure is the same as last year.
Hiring started in August and most jobs will be filled by mid-November, Kohl’s said. Information is available at KohlsCareers.com.
Bon-Ton is now hiring for the roles, and applications are available at www.careers.bonton.com or at any store. Each store will also host a job fair on Friday, Sept. 30, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Job interviews will be conducted that day.
Bon-Ton said holiday employees receive a 20 percent discount, and may be able to transition to full-time positions after the holidays.
“Bon-Ton plans to increase our staffing for the holiday season so we can provide an exceptional shopping experience to our customers,” said Bill Tracy, chief operating officer. “Hiring additional staffing will ensure we deliver fast, friendly service and meet customer expectations in our stores as well as online.”
The national retailers have been struggling in recent quarters as consumers shop more online from a wider variety of sources, and the holiday season will again be an important period for earnings.
