Connecticut-based furniture chain, Bob’s Discount Furniture will take over all three of the Milwaukee-area hhgregg locations after the electronics retailer closes this fall.
Indianapolis-based hhgregg announced Aug. 8 it was closing its five Wisconsin locations, including stores in Brown Deer, 9140 N. Green Bay Road; Greenfield, 4585 S. 76th St.; and at Regency Mall in Racine, 5820 Durand Ave.
Hhgregg has been in the Wisconsin market since fall 2012.
Bob’s Discount Furniture is in various stages of negotiations to take over hhgregg’s leases at all three of the Milwaukee-area locations. The stores will likely be opened by the holiday season, according to municipal officials.
The furniture retailer does not currently have a store in Wisconsin. Representatives from Bob’s Discount Furniture could not be reached for comment.
“It’s good news that we won’t have an empty big box, but unfortunate for the people at hhgregg who will be losing their jobs,” said Charles Erickson, Greenfield community development manager.
