BizTimes Live from Summerfest Blog, Day 2

Welcome to Day 2 of Summerfest 2015!
The smoke from last night’s Big Bang fireworks show has cleared and the bands have been warming up all morning. The BizTimes Media staff can hear them rocking from our desks, just across a field in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward.

The gates open at noon, and the first 1,500 who show a receipt for Quaker Chewy Granola Bars can get in free until 3 p.m.

But how will you get to the Big Gig? There’s all kinds of options, from trains to buses to bikes. This year, Summerfest has even set up three official Uber pick-up and drop-off areas and Uber is offering new users a free first ride.

If you’re thinking about grabbing a ride with Uber, you have the option of being picked up or dropped off at the North end, at East Michigan St. and North Harbor Drive; the West spot, at East Chicago St. and North Jackson St.; or the South end, at East Polk St. and North Jackson St. More details and the free ride promotion code are available here.

The headliner act at the Marcus Amphitheater tonight is Kings of Leon.

Tonight’s editor’s pick for music: I love to check out new music at Summerfest, and I’ve heard good things about Trampled by Turtles (10 p.m., Uline Warehouse) and Canopies (9 p.m., KNE New Music Stage).

Tonight’s editor’s pick for food: Two of my favorites, Ward’s House of Prime and Classy Girl Cupcakes, have booths this year. I will definitely be nibbling on their dishes.
