BizTimes Live from Summerfest Blog

For about two weeks every year, Milwaukee becomes the coolest place on the planet.

When taking into account the venue, the people-watching, the food, the beer, the weather and the music, Summerfest is like no other.

Milwaukee’s signature festival kicked off today amid glorious weather.

Admission is free today with a donation of three non-perishable food items or a minimal free-will donation at the gate from noon to 3 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Hunger Task Force.

The forecast appears to be perfect for the Summerfest Big Bang Fireworks to be presented tonight by Menards and WISN-TV at 9:30 p.m. If you can’t attend live, you can watch the fireworks in a high-definition rebroadcast on Channel 12 at 10:30 p.m.

The headliner act at the Marcus Amphitheater tonight will be Florida Georgia Line.

They have a tough act to follow after the Rolling Stones kicked off the festival with a concert Tuesday night.

Note: If you can’t figure out a way to get into Summerfest for free, you’re not trying very hard.

Tonight’s editor’s pick for music: Sheryl Crow at the BMO Harris Pavilion at 10 p.m.
