BizTimes Media recently hired reporter Erica Breunlin, who is covering technology, health care and the nonprofit sector for BizTimes Milwaukee magazine and BizTimes.com.
Originally from Sycamore, Ill., Breunlin graduated from Marquette University in May with a journalism degree and a minor in French.
Breunlin has journalism experience in both the nonprofit and newsroom settings. During her college career, she wrote for Marquette’s student newspaper, The Marquette Tribune, and completed an internship in the publications department of the Zoological Society of Milwaukee. She also worked as a fellowship student for a semester at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, focusing on education reporting.
During her first year and a half in college, Breunlin worked as an assistant to an assistant dean and served as a counselor for a journalism summer program tailored toward high school students.
At BizTimes, Breunlin compiles the BizTimes Bubbler Weekly and Nonprofit Weekly e-newsletters. Her print magazine contributions include the Innovations column. She also will spearhead BizTimes’ social media projects.
Breunlin succeeds Alysha Schertz, who was recently married and moved from Milwaukee to enable her husband to pursue his career as a collegiate basketball coach.
“BizTimes will certainly miss Alysha Schertz. She was on the forefront of social media and played a key role in forging our new brand. Our editorial team has won national awards for excellence in recent years, and we’re confident that Erica will help us continue that tradition,” said BizTimes publisher Dan Meyer.
Breunlin joins the BizTimes editorial staff, which also includes reporter Molly Newman, managing editor Andrew Weiland and executive editor Steve Jagler.
