BizStarts Milwaukee receives federal grant extension

BizStarts Milwaukee has received a grant extension for $718,000 from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to help grow start-up companies in the M-7 region.

The required local fund matches for the grant will bring the total over four years to almost $900,000.

“This is a big win for BizStarts and the entire M7 region,” said Dan Steininger, BizStarts’ president and co-founder. “BizStarts has successfully advised and mentored entrepreneurs who come to us for help to start their new companies and create jobs. We are intent on driving innovation through entrepreneurship; we will see more companies, more jobs, and greater wealth creation because of this grant. We’re very pleased the EDA has recognized a success story and is extending additional support to us.”

Eric Paulsen, executive director of BizStarts, said, “We really appreciate the EDA’s added support. With their support and that of the community, we’re able to expand our current capacity and add resources for assisting entrepreneurs looking to start or grow smaller companies and businesses in economically distressed areas where the need for job creation and positive economic momentum is greatest. BizStarts is determined to maximize the positive economic and social impact new companies and jobs can bring.”

BizStarts Milwaukee is a 501(c)(3) organization established in 2008 with the mission of creating an innovation economy and nourishing an entrepreneurial culture across the Milwaukee region by helping entrepreneurs connect with the resources they need to start companies and create jobs.
