Aurora Health Care recently donated more than $10,000 to assist the Salvation Army of Greater Milwaukee’s Haiti Relief Effort.
“As healthcare professionals we naturally wanted to provide support to families living in Haiti in the most impactful manner. We understand the aftermath of natural disasters like an earthquake. Providing our support was immediate,” said Mark Huber, vice president of social responsibility at Aurora Health Care.
Since the earthquake on January 12, the Salvation Army has provided food, water and medical services to the people of Haiti. Aurora’s donation totaled $10,243.50.
“We are grateful to the healthcare professionals at Aurora for their generous donation,” said Major Jesse Collins, Milwaukee County commander. “Donations continue to meet the needs of disaster survivors on-the-ground in Port Au Prince and elsewhere in Haiti. The Salvation Army is working closely with multiple corporate partners and non-governmental organizations to provide food, water, medicine, shelter, and other immediate aid.”
According to Collins, the needs of the Haitian community has shifted from emergency to sustainable recovery efforts. The organization is now helping to repair or re-establish local water sources, water filtration and repairing or re-building earthquake resistant housing.
