Ascent Global Logistics, a third-party logistics technology and service provider based in the Detroit area, plans to move its local office, including as many as 95 employees, from Cudahy to Milwaukee's Bay View neighborhood.
According to city records, Belleville, Michigan-based Ascent plans to occupy space at the
Louis Allis building at 427 E. Stewart St.
Representatives of Ascent said in an email the company will occupy 16,800 square feet in the building. It will initially have 75-95 employees there, but expects to add 20-30 new team members "in the near future."
It is in the final stages of preparing the space, and expects employees to move in throughout February. Ascent is relocating to Bay View from its current local offices in Cudahy, at 4900 South Pennsylvania Ave.
The move is very much about attracting and retain talent, according to Ascent.
"We are a talent-focused organization, so it is imperative that everything we do be built to attract the best team members," representatives said in an email. "Downtown Milwaukee is easily accessible (from Bay View). Our team can ride bikes to work, and we even installed a locker room with showers to make this type of commuting easy."
The company was attracted to the Louis Allis building because of its history and unique space.
The building was constructed in 1947, according to
Wisconsin Historical Society records, and totals 477,195 square feet, according to city records. It formerly housed motor manufacturer Louis Allis Co.
It is owned by Industrial Group Inc., which is owned by the Doro family. Tenants include industrial sheet metal and piping contractor
Doral Corp., which is owned by Scott Doro, and
Enlightened Brewing Co., among others.
"This is a special space for an office," Ascent stated. "The Doro family has preserved historical elements of the building, including even the clocks. We really value the importance of history in Ascent, as our company is built upon some predecessor organizations with strong historic legacies."
Ascent assists clients with supply-chain management through customized solutions, technology and customer service. It has 20 locations and more than 900 employees.
