Go Red for Women is a worldwide initiative of AHA designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women locally, nationally, and globally.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading killer of women in the United States, claiming more lives each year than all forms of cancer combined, according to AHA. Cardiovascular disease is a woman’s greatest health threat, taking the life of one in every three women.

“One is too many,” Golden said. “One in three women are dying of cardiovascular disease and losing one woman isn’t an option. And that is why I am chairing the 2023 Milwaukee Go Red for Women campaign. I have a strong family history of cardiovascular disease, and I recently lost my father to sudden cardiac arrest due to his history of atrial fibrillation. This motivates me to work in his honor to further the mission of the American Heart Association. And through Go Red for Women, I am dedicated to reaching more women to empower them to take control of their health. And when women come together, there isn’t anything we can’t achieve.”

The 2023 Milwaukee Go Red for Women event will be held on May 12, at The Pfister Hotel in downtown Milwaukee.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Golden’s experience, conviction and passion help to drive Go Red in southeast Wisconsin,” said Katie Connolly, Milwaukee American Heart Association executive director, development and community health. “Together, we know that we will have a positive impact on the lives of women in our community and the families that depend on them.”
