American Heart Association awards MPS employee wellness program

Milwaukee Public Schools’ employee wellness program recently earned a gold designation from the American Heart Association’s Fit-Friendly Worksite Wellness Program. MPS is one of two school districts in Wisconsin to earn the recognition.

The heart association’s Fit-Friendly program recognizes employers who champion the health of their employees and work to create a culture of physical activity and health in the workplace.

“We are very proud of this designation,” said Tara Witt, MPS employee wellness coordinator. “It’s proof that the employee wellness program at MPS is moving in a very positive direction.”

Eligibility for the designation included providing employee physical activity support and healthy eating options at work, as well as a wellness culture.

MPS employee wellness completed six of the physical activity criteria, two of the nutrition requirements and one element showing creation of a wellness culture.
