Amazon.com Inc. announced it will now offer free same-day shipping to the Milwaukee metro area for its Prime customers.
The service allows a user who subscribes to Amazon’s $99 annual Prime membership to place an order worth more than $35 from Amazon.com in the morning and receive it by 9 p.m. The same-day delivery is available seven days a week, and more than 1 million items are eligible for the service.
The massive Seattle-based online retailer built a 1.1 million-square-foot fulfillment center and a 500,000-square-foot distribution center in Kenosha that opened in June 2015, and hired more than 2,000 full-time fulfillment employees last summer. It has had a measurable economic impact on jobs-starved Kenosha County.
Amazon also is expanding the service into 10 other net metro areas: Cincinnati, Ohio; Louisville, Ky.; Nashville, Tenn.; Charlotte, N.C.; Raleigh, N.C.; Sacramento, Stockton and Fresno, Calif.; Richmond, Va.; and Tucson, Ariz. It now delivers the same day in 27 metro areas nationwide.
Amazon Prime members already are eligible for free two-day shipping on more than 30 million items.
“Prime was developed to make shopping on Amazon fast and convenient, and millions of members have used Prime FREE Same-Day Delivery to make their lives even easier,” said Greg Greeley, vice president of Prime. “We keep making Prime better, and as our operational capabilities grow, we will continue to invent and expand delivery options that customers love.”
