Several local sustainability leaders today will receive Earth Day Sustainable Business awards at a ceremony at Briggs & Stratton Corp. in Wauwatosa.
Presented by the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council in partnership with Cool Choices and the Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership, the awards recognize businesses that are committed to sustainable processes, products and business models.
“We received 38 applications this year, almost twice as many as we received last year,” said Tom Eggert, executive director of the WSBC. “There is a growing interest in sustainability credentials for many Wisconsin businesses.”
Will Allen, CEO of Growing Power in Milwaukee, will be recognized for sustainable leadership for his efforts to bring greater sustainability to food systems while enhancing security and alleviating issues such as diabetes and malnutrition.
Matt Levatich, CEO of Harley-Davidson in Milwaukee, will be recognized for sustainable leadership for his implementation of a comprehensive baseline assessment of the motorcycle manufacturer’s environmental impacts and launching initiatives including the first all-electric motorcycle, Project LiveWire.
BRP Evinrude in Sturtevant will be recognized for a sustainable process for its closed loop water system, which it uses to test and validate marine outboard engines to save more than 22 million gallons of water per year.
Other awardees are: Spring Green Timber Growers in Spring Green, Appleton Coated in Combined Locks and New Glarus Brewing Co. in New Glarus.
