ALDI in search of employees for Milwaukee stores

National grocery chain ALDI plans to hold a hiring event for greater Milwaukee on Wednesday, Aug. 28, to fill positions such as cashiers, shift managers and manager trainees for area stores.

The event, open to area residents in need of employment, will run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Radisson Metro Milwaukee Hotel, located at 7065 N. Port Washington Rd. in Milwaukee.

ALDI district managers will collect resumes and completed applications at the hiring event and will also conduct brief onsite interviews. Interested applicants can pick up applications at local ALDI stores prior to the event if they would prefer filling them out in advance.

Job candidates must be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or GED, and be able to life 45 pounds. Retail experience is preferred and management experience is preferred for manager trainee positions. Job seekers must also be free to work anytime between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. all days of the week, and they will be required to undergo a drug screening and background check before starting.

According to Atty McGrath, Oak Creek division vice president of ALDI, the company does not have a target number of available positions for area stores. Each ALDI store typically hires 10 employees with three to five employees manning a store at all times.

“We will do our best to place all outstanding candidates,” McGrath said.

Cashiers, shift managers and manager trainees are an essential part of the company’s operation and face of each store, McGrath said.

“We’re looking for people who are hardworking, dedicated and excel in a supportive, team-oriented environment,” she said.

ALDI offers part-time staff who complete at least 20 hours of work a week full health insurance dental coverage and 401K. The company typically pays cashiers $10 to $12 per hour, shift managers $10 to $12 per hour (and another $4.25 per hour when handling management responsibilities), and manager trainees $18.55 to $22 per hour.

“At ALDI, we recognize and respect the value that our people add to the business by providing excellent service day after day,” McGrath said. “We want to attract, motivate and retain our dedicated workforce.”

Area ALDI locations include: 225 E. Capitol Dr. in Milwaukee, 1441 S. 35th St. in Milwaukee, and 1712 S. 108th St. in West Allis.
