Passenger traffic at Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee continues to rise, with traffic up 4.4 percent in October and traffic for the first 10 months of the year was up 3.2 percent, according to the latest data.
The airport had 580,416 passengers in October, up from 555,834 in October of 2015. The airport has had higher passenger numbers in nine of the first 10 months of the year, with the lone exception being April.
For the first 10 months of the year the airport had about 5.7 million passengers, up from about 5.5 million passengers for the same time period in 2015.
“Mitchell International Airport’s easy travel experience with quick, friendly curb-to-gate service continues to attract passengers from not only Wisconsin, but also northern Illinois,” said Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele. “Couple that with service from all the major domestic airlines and nonstop service to 37 top destinations throughout the country, and it’s easy to see why people are choosing Mitchell.”
Airlines have been adding new service at Mitchell as passenger numbers rise. Frontier Airlines this week launched nonstop service from Milwaukee to Phoenix. Frontier’s new flights to Phoenix operate every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
In June, Frontier launched new service from Milwaukee to Philadelphia, and in April Frontier launched new service from Milwaukee to Atlanta and to Dallas.
“Frontier’s growth here is a result of passengers choosing MKE as their starting point. We encourage Milwaukee and Illinois-area travelers to continue using MKE instead of the inconvenient airports in Chicago,” County Executive Chris Abele said. “Airlines like Frontier respond to increased demand in key markets like Phoenix. This is a great example of how MKE succeeds when travelers choose their hometown airport for all of their travel.”
Delta Air Lines will launch a new daily nonstop flight from Milwaukee to Seattle in 2017. Delta also plans to add a second Milwaukee to Boston flight in 2017.
In August, Southwest Airlines launched new daily nonstop service from Milwaukee to San Diego.
