The stands of American Family Field will be home to fans of a different kind of ball game on Friday.
The Milwaukee Brewers have teamed up with the University of Wisconsin’s men’s and women’s basketball teams, and sporting events promoter InterSport of Chicago, to put on the first college basketball games at the stadium.
On Monday, crews with InterSport spent the day laying down a basketball court onto the baseball diamond square by square.
Once the court is laid, bleacher seating will be added around portions of the court.
Friday’s event, called the Aurora Health Care Brew City Battle, is an early season college basketball doubleheader with Wisconsin’s women’s team playing against Kansas State at 3:30 p.m. and the Wisconsin men’s team playing against Stanford at 6:30 p.m.
It will be the first time that American Family Field has hosted a college basketball event, and the first staged in a baseball-only park since San Diego played San Diego State at Petco Park in 2015.
