A 155-room
Tempo by Hilton hotel is being planned in downtown Milwaukee for the northwest corner of West Kilbourn Avenue and North Old World Third Street, on the same block of the Journal Square redevelopment project.
The hotel would stand eight stories tall and total 137,466 square feet. It would include 60 onsite garage parking spaces and about 4,600 square feet of meeting space.
Project details
were revealed online by Milwaukee-based
FirstPathway Partners, a firm that helps connect foreign investors to development projects through the federal EB-5 program. EB-5 is a visa program in which international investors who create jobs and development can earn U.S. green cards.
Industry sources said Milwaukee-based
HKS Holdings LLCÂ is the project developer. HKS has developed projects using EB-5 financing in the past.
HKS did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
A rendering depicts the hotel sitting at Kilbourn and Old World Third, on the block of the former Journal Sentinel offices.
Those buildings are now owned by Milwaukee-based
J. Jeffers & Co., which plans to convert the buildings into housing and commercial uses.
Construction recently commenced on the 1962 building addition portion of the complex. It is being turned into a 195-bed housing project for Milwaukee Area Technical College students.
Jeffers' overall redevelopment project is known as Journal Square.
The firm did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the proposed hotel.
Hilton
launched its Tempo brand about a year ago. Tempo by Hilton is marketed as an "approachable lifestyle" brand that serves "modern achievers." It combines design elements with diverse lifestyle partnerships.
It could join
two other hotels being planned nearby in the Milwaukee Bucks' Deer District, which is just a block away. The
first planned hotel for the Deer District is a 230-room Marriott International Autograph Collection hotel north of the Fiserv Forum, at the corner of Juneau and Vel R. Phillips avenues. Details of the second hotel haven't been revealed. It will likely be built on land where the former Bradley Center once stood.
