The latest project planned for land south of the Ikea furniture store in Oak Creek includes a four-story, 143-unit apartment building with a neighboring one-story freestanding retail building.
According to plans filed with the city, the buildings would go up east of South Ikea Way and south of the future Creekside Crossing Circle. A site plan shows the apartment building would total roughly 41,400 square feet. The 6,000-square-foot freestanding retail building is labeled "potential."
The proposal comes from landowner Walden OC LLC, an affiliate of Milwaukee-based
Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co.
"We are upbeat about opportunities for developing land we own near IKEA in Oak Creek and continue to work on our proposed Creekside Crossing mixed use development," Northwestern Mutual spokeswoman Betsy Hoylman said in an email. "The property is important to us because of its proximity to our Franklin campus, and as with all our real estate investments, we are developing it patiently to be sure we deliver value to our investment portfolio."
This is the second project being proposed south of Ikea. The city is working with Wisconsin Dells-based Stand Rock Hospitality to
develop two hotels totaling 221 rooms and a 11,500-square-foot conference center.
