An affiliate of Fiddleheads Coffee Roasters has acquired a vacant retail building on North Avenue in Wauwatosa, with plans to open a new cafe there.
The building, located at 8807 W. North Ave., was sold recently for $500,000, according to state records. The buyer is Marcy Real Estate LLC, which is registered to Ray Marcy, a co-owner of the Thiensville-based specialty coffee company. The seller is Mathie Tosa Holdings II LLC, which is registered to John Mathie.
The company is currently working with the city to secure necessary approvals to open a new location in the building, Mahnaz Marcy, a spokesperson for Fiddleheads, said. The goal is open sometime in the spring.
Fiddleheads chooses locations in part based on their proximity to existing locations. This is a reason the company had its sights set on Wauwatosa.
“Having a close-knitted area to deliver our fresh food items every day is what makes sense, so stretching from Menomonee Falls into Wauwatosa was our next step in planning,” Marcy wrote. “We didn’t know where exactly, but knew it was meant to be, one day. We wanted to be part of Wauwatosa for a while now. We love the community, love its energy, it’s a great place to be!”
The coffee company is in growth mode.
Founded in Thiensville, Fiddleheads also has shops in Cedarburg, Mequon, Grafton, Menomonee Falls, Glendale and Shorewood. In July it announced plans to open another location on the ground floor of the new BMO Tower office building in downtown Milwaukee. That shop is slated to open Dec. 1.
With the downtown location as its seventh, the North Avenue building would make Fiddleheads’ eighth location. It serves coffee beverages, bakery items, and a full breakfast and lunch menu at all locations.
Marcy said Fiddleheads is looking to continue this growth, both internally and with potentially more locations.
Newmark Knight Frank was the listing broker on the property.
Kevin Schmoldt, managing director of Newmark Knight Frank’s Milwaukee office, noted the building is on the eastern end of a contiguous three-block stretch of retail businesses along the south side of the street.
“This building had long been vacant and the neighborhood wanted something great,” Schmoldt said in an email.
