Kohler Co.'s hospitality arm is opening a new dining concept to replace Italian restaurant Cucina, which was in business more than 20 years at
The Shops at Woodlake in Kohler.
Taverne on Woodlake is slated to open July 11 and is now accepting reservations, according to a news release Thursday.
The restaurant, at 725 E. Woodlake Road, will serve "elevated comfort food," such as wood-fire grilled meats and fish, and gourmet pizza. The space seats 120 people, with additional outdoor seating on its terrace overlooking Wood Lake.
This is the first time Destination Kohler has reinvented one of its dining establishments, according to the release. The most recent post on
Cucina's Facebook page is from March 17, announcing that all Destination Kohler restaurants would temporarily close due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
"Cucina was a beloved dining institution for more than 20 great years, but we’re thrilled to introduce this new marquee culinary experience to local residents and resort guests. While the menu and space design will be different, the commitment to standout service and quality cuisine will remain," Destination Kohler said in an email statement.Â
Now, enhanced health and safety procedures have been put in place throughout Destination Kohler's properties. They include increased deep cleaning, hand sanitizing stations, face masks required for employees, social distancing guidelines and mandatory temperature checks for customers.
Kohler's hospitality and real estate group is the operating arm of its five-star American Club resort, Kohler Water Spa, 15 restaurant properties, and four renown golf courses, including Whistling Straits, which will host the 43rd Ryder Cup next summer. The PGA's biennial golf competition was
postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Most of Destination Kohler's businesses have reopened to the public, but it appears lodging at the American Club is still closed, according to its website.
Destination Kohler also operates Lodge Kohler and its in-house restaurant Taverne in the Sky, located in the Titletown District near Lambeau Field. Taverne on Woodlake is modeled after its Green Bay counterpart.
"Taverne in the Sky at Lodge Kohler in Green Bay has become a favorite among hotel guests and the local community, and we were eager to expand the concept and bring it to Destination Kohler. The Cucina space and its setting on Wood Lake was an ideal location to capture the warm spirit and contemporary ambiance required to deliver our Taverne experience," the company said.Â
The new restaurant will be open daily for lunch service from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and for dinner from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Curbside pickup is available.
