The Village of Pleasant Prairie's preliminary plans for the Village Green Center project call for an inclusive community incorporating civic, commercial, office and various residential uses, with space for more than 1,300 new residences.
The village and Milwaukee-based architecture firm Rinka presented the draft master plan of the 180-acre Village Green Center during a public hearing on Thursday, according to a news release.
The Village Green Center development site is generally located at Springbrook Road, 39th Avenue, and State Highway 165. A group of consultants, residents and village officials began drafting plans for the site
more than a year ago.
Draft plans call for an inclusive community that incorporates a wide variety of uses, such as civic, commercial, hospitality, food and beverage, office and various residential units including active senior living, multi-family and single-family. They propose dense mixed-use developments be developed near the central green area and reducing the density farther out as a transition to the surrounding neighborhoods.
The plans also feature 68 acres of connected green space, and propose space for more than 1,300 new residents. The green space is to encourage walkability, and specifically includes protected bike lanes and nature trails. It would create a network of paths that generate full loops around the Village Green Center site.
Thursday's public hearing was held virtually, and more than 160 people attended.
Project planning commenced over a year ago, led by a village- and resident-driven steering committee in partnership with Rinka. The group will next create a final master plan after reviewing public feedback.
The Village Green Center vision statement calls for an inclusive, vibrant community core that connects people, celebrates nature, and provides compelling opportunities for sustainable development in an environment that's authentic to the village, according to the release.
