The owner of Ninja Japanese Steakhouse in Menomonee Falls plans to open a new sushi restaurant in downtown Milwaukee.
The concept, listed as Ninja MKE, would take over a 4,000-square-foot two-story building formerly home to Catch 22 bar and restaurant, located at 770 N. Milwaukee St, according a license application recently filed with the City of Milwaukee.
Other businesses have been proposed for the site since Catch 22 closed in 2015, but it has remained vacant.
Ninja Japanese Steakhouse owner Lichai Chen is planning to renovate the space in time for a June 2020 opening, noting he is in the process of purchasing the property, according to the license application. Chen was not immediately available for comment.
Ninja MKE is described as a sushi-hibachi restaurant. It’s first floor would focus on sushi, housing a shared bar and sushi bar area, eight small tables and full kitchen. The second floor would focus on Hibachi with four hibachi stations, two hibachi rooms and a prep kitchen.
Ninja Japanese Steakhouse, located at N88 W15575 Main St in Menomonee Falls, specializes in sushi and hibachi. Chen opened that restaurant in 2013.
