Collaboration
Collaboration will continue to grow in popularity, transforming how offices are laid out. Cubicle walls will be lowered or even removed altogether. By bringing down physical barriers between employees, employers break down the walls in communication as they provide more opportunity for engagement – and productivity. As co-workers embrace the added freedom to work together, furniture that is versatile and durable will be held in high esteem for casual breakouts among employees.
However, the need for private offices will not completely go away; many employees will always prefer the space to focus for certain kinds of work. Unassigned private alcoves or offices allow that privacy when it’s needed, while still encouraging the collaborative work environment.
Adaptability
In 2017 we will see workplaces not only becoming more collaborative, but also more adaptable. Diverse employee work styles, space for collaboration, and the mobility of work will solidify the trend toward transitional and shared spaces. Employees may only come in for certain days, or work from anywhere within the office. There will be an increased need for multipurpose furniture, such as table desks that can be placed in private or collaborative spaces to be used singly as a personal desk or together for a team meeting.
