The Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division has appointed its chief medical officer Dr. John Schneider to the full-time faculty at The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), Milwaukee, in the department of psychiatry and behavioral medicine department as an assistant professor for students in the clinician administrator path. His appointment begins this semester and will extend through June 30, 2020.
“Under Dr. Schneider’s leadership we have improved the continuum of care for some of the most vulnerable individuals in our community, giving them the chance to live better quality lives,” said Mike Lappen, administrator for the Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division. “ Dr. Schneider’s decades of medical and behavioral health experience in the field, on the unit, and at the board table will help prepare even more individuals to continue to do this important work.”
Schneider currently is a member of the leadership team at Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division (BHD) and oversees clinical policy, program development, quality management, performance improvement, and medical staff. He also is a part of the Milwaukee County Mental Health Board’s Joint Task Force and contributes to their process to identify a partner to build an acute psychiatric hospital for Milwaukee County, and the subsequent planning for a community-wide psychiatric crisis services redesign.

Kubly professor and chairman for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Milwaukee County Mental Health Board Member. “Dr. Schneider’s support of education at BHD, community mindedness, and focus on quality care aligns well with MCW’s missions of education, research, high quality patient care, and community engagement.”
Prior to joining BHD, Schneider worked for Aurora Psychiatric Hospital as the medical director of the intensive treatment unit at Aurora, president of the medical staff, and as chairman and vice-chairman of the medical executive committee of the Aurora Metro medical staff. He also served as a member of the medical management committee of the Aurora Accountable Care Network, the management committee of Aurora Behavioral Health Services and on the Aurora mid-market board of directors.
Schneider is currently board certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He also serves as president-elect for the Wisconsin Psychiatric Association and is a member of both the Wisconsin Medical Society and the Medical Society of Milwaukee County. To contribute to his healthy lifestyle, Schneider competes in running and triathlon events and enjoys time with his wife and three children.
