With the long, hot days of summer just a few weeks away, a Tim Burton-inspired public service campaign created by Laughlin Constable for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee highlights the importance of giving kids a safe haven where they participate in supervised activities after school and during the summer. Laughlin Constable is a fully-integrated national branding agency with offices in Chicago, Milwaukee, New York and New Jersey.
The 30-second commercial uses animation reminiscent of the movie “Nightmare Before Christmas” to represent how scary the streets can be for youth. The stop-motion animation follows the path of two children walking home from school, their path plagued by ominous shadows and monstrously animated windows, cars and dumpsters. The young protagonists emerge from the dark alley to find refuge and a bright future at Boys & Girls Clubs and its promise of “A Club for Every Kid.”
The spot was created by Frank Anderson, an Appleton, Wis.-based director/animator. He and a team from Laughlin Constable donated their time and expertise to create the campaign.
The campaign will kick off with the commercial airing on local TV and cable on May 10 and in local movie theaters and with banner ads online. A companion radio spot also will begin airing on local and internet radio stations. Laughlin Constable also has created outdoor billboards as well as ads for newspapers, magazines and bus shelters.
