Walker’s Point has gone to the dogs.
Milwaukee Vet Clinic opened at the beginning of April at 107 E. Seeboth St., marking the latest in pet-related openings and developments in the growing neighborhood.
The clinic provides full-service care for dogs, cats and small mammals such as rabbits, guinea pigs and other rodents. Services include exams and vaccines, a pharmacy, surgical services and in-house diagnostics. Also working with Capital Performance Veterinary Services, Milwaukee Vet Clinic offers rehabilitation services such as spinal manipulation, acupuncture and cold-laser therapy.
The business is owned by Wauwatosa native Shana Loomis and Matei Bulgar. Loomis is providing the veterinary services, while Bulgar is handling office operations, Bulgar said.
“To me, there’s a demand here that’s definitely unmet,” Bulgar said of choosing Walker’s Point to open the vet clinic, pointing to the number of residential developments in the area that have taken place in recent years.
For instance, the clinic itself is leasing ground-floor commercial space at the Castings Place Apartments. These apartments were built in 2007, according to city records.
Bulgar said he and Loomis considered sites in the nearby Historic Third Ward as well as in Bay View. They ultimately decided on the Seeboth Street location because it was the most central to the three neighborhoods.
“Changing how your regular vet visit goes is a top priority of ours,” Loomis said in a news release. “We want pets to feel at ease with seeing their veterinarian.”
Milwaukee Vet Clinic is hosting an open house on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. The open house will include a Yappy Hour, serving Vennture Brew Co. beer tasting and treats from Lazy Susan. In attendance will be Brew City Bully Club, Shorewest Realtors and Capital Performance Veterinary Services.
The opening of the vet clinic is the most recent sign of demand for pet-related services coming from residents in Walker’s Point and other nearby neighborhoods.
Earlier this spring, the owners of Happy Paws Grooming and Daycare LLC detailed plans to open its second dog daycare location in a former recycling facility at 1132 S. Barclay St. Not too far from that, Doggy Office recently began leasing space at 125 E. Greenfield Ave. with plans to open a dog daycare there.
Owners of both dog daycares said they were attracted to the neighborhood because of the growing number of residents, many of who own pets.
“With all the growth of dog-friendly apartment and condominiums, not only downtown but in the Fifth Ward and Walker’s Point area we feel there is a great need for a dog daycare and boarding facility,” Happy Paws states in an application filed with the city this spring.
