A European-style market selling fresh flowers, floral arrangements and internationally-sourced gifts is the latest tenant and only retail concept announced for the Mequon Public Market at Spur 16, Shaffer Development announced today.
The retailer, called La Terre, is the brainchild of entrepreneurs Vicki Kunz and Meg Hopkins, who say they relied on expertise from both their existing businesses to create the concept. Kunz owns La Tulipe, a floral shop in Cedarburg, and Hopkins owns Elements East, a furniture and home decor store in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward.
Hopkins recently revamped the longtime retailer by expanding its inventory and including more experiential items.
“Shaffer Development spurred the idea of Meg and I coming together to create La Terre,” Kunz said. “They were looking to add flowers and interesting, eclectic small gifts to the Mequon Public Market, and approached us individually about coming together with a wholly new retail concept for the development. Given the quality and outstanding reputations of the other tenants and the high quality and vision of the entire project, we both said an enthusiastic, ‘Yes!'”
In an effort to attract shoppers of all ages, La Terre will sell an ever-changing selection of inventory at various price points, including floral arrangements and bouquets, flowers for special occasions, potted houseplants, candles, cards and jewelry. It will also sell services such as floral arrangement custom design and delivery as well as floral subscriptions.
“Although La Terre draws on expertise gleaned from our current businesses, it is a totally new and different concept than either of our existing businesses,” Hopkins said. “La Terre will have a European market vibe and be the go-to source for concierge-style flowers as well as gifts curated by me and Vicki.”
La Terre joins eight food and beverage-based vendors that have been announced for the 10,000-square-foot Mequon Public Market, which is slated for a late spring or early summer opening. They include:
- Anodyne Coffee
- Purple Door Ice Cream
- Screaming Tuna
- Bavette La Boucherie
- Beans and Barley
- Café Corazon
- Happy Dough Lucky
- Bowls
Milwaukee-based St. Paul Fish Company will operate an oyster bar and restaurant adjacent to the market.
Spur 16 includes a 5,000-square-foot public wellness center that houses Club Pilates Mequon and Yama Yoga, which both opened in February.
The project’s ten luxury townhomes are now available for occupancy. Three buildings with a total of 146 apartment units will be available for occupancy in June.
The development also includes a clubhouse space that will be available exclusively for those who reside at Spur 16. It will include a pool, gathering area with a community kitchen and event space, and a workout facility with Peloton bikes.
