Plans are in the works for a new banquet hall and cocktail lounge to open this summer in Milwaukee’s East Town neighborhood.

It would take over the 4,000-square-foot ground floor of a two-story building located at 770 N. Milwaukee St., according to a license application filed with the City of Milwaukee. The space previously housed bar and restaurant Catch 22, which closed in 2015.

The concept is listed as The Merovingian LLC, but that won’t be its official name, said owner Sean Pliss.

Pliss, who previously had owned and operated former downtown Milwaukee bars Oak Lounge and Matador Taco + Tequila, declined to comment on his plans for the venue until his licensing requests are approved by the city, he said.

The banquet hall, which targets a July opening, would be rented out for events such as weddings, receptions and corporate gatherings. It would serve alcohol and feature entertainment including live music, DJs and dancing, according to the license application.

Pliss said more details will be available in the coming weeks.
