Historic Milwaukee Inc. announced that it will launch a new Milwaukee tour using the city’s downtown streetcar, The Hop.
“This is our first tour using mass transit,” said Julia Griffith, HMI program manager. “We wanted to create an all new tour and didn’t want to repeat information that is available via our Downtown tour. This tour brings in many fun facts about downtown development, building styles, new urbanism and even what famous NBA player once lived in Juneau Village.”
The streetcar tour will be offered on Saturdays at 2 p.m., beginning March 2. It will start at the Historic Milwaukee Inc. offices at 235 E. Michigan St. before a half-block walk to a streetcar stop. The tour will last about 90 minutes. Tickets will cost $5 for HMI members and $10 for nonmembers. All Hop tours must be booked in advance at www.historicmilwaukee.org.
For the winter months, the tour will remain on The Hop. Plans call for summer tours to “hop off” and walk a few blocks before reboarding The Hop.
The tour will incorporate a headset system that will allow attendees to better hear the tour guide while riding or walking.
