Another bar restaurant concept is in the works for the Milwaukee Bucks’ Entertainment Block adjacent to Fiserv Forum in downtown Milwaukee.
The establishment, to be named The Mecca Sports Bar and Grill, will occupy a 10,000-square-foot space in a newly-constructed building at 1134 N. Vel R. Phillips Ave., according to an occupancy permit filed Wednesday.
The Bucks declined to comment on the project. The applicant for the occupancy permit is listed as Adam Kirchner of Milwaukee-based ADK Design. Kirchner could not be reached for comment.
The name of the sports bar would be an homage to the Bucks’ former home. Prior to the construction of the Bradley Center, the Bucks played at the MECCA Arena (now known as the UWM Panther Arena).
The Mecca Sports Bar and Grill will be the fourth tenant announced for the Entertainment Block, and the fifth drinking establishment on the strip. The development includes two, two-story buildings separated by a Bucks-operated outdoor beer garden.
Mecca will occupy the southern portion of north building– the northern portion of that building houses Good City Brewing’s recently-opened 11,000-square-foot taproom and production facility.
The southern building will be split between Drink Wisconsinbly’s 3,500-square-foot pub and merchandise shop opening in early April, and Punch Bowl Social’s 24,000-square-foot “eatertainment” concept.
Punch Bowl Social’s grand opening date has not been officially announced. Signage was being installed Thursday morning to the top of the building.
