Standard of Excellence Education & Training, a Milwaukee firm that trains caregivers, plans to open a training facility in a vacant former school building on the city’s northwest side.
Standard of Excellence plans to purchase the city-owned property at 6914 W. Appleton Ave. for $120,000 and complete an estimated $100,000 to $150,000 in renovations, according to plans submitted to the city.
The company, which has been in business since 2013, currently rents space at 9235 W. Capitol Drive. In 2017, it opened a satellite location in downtown Racine for its training program.
The Milwaukee School of Entrepreneurship previously occupied the 10,650-square-foot building at 6914 W. Appleton Ave. The school closed in 2012. The property was declared surplus by the Milwaukee Public Schools board in 2012 and later by the city in 2014.
Standard of Excellence provides training for people providing care or services for community-based residential facilities, adult family homes and home care agencies. It also develops outreach and training events related to caregiving. The company is affiliated with the American Red Cross and Department of Health and Family Services.
At its new location, Standard of Excellence also plans to launch a program to recruit and train teens for careers in health care, according to the plans.
