Wisconsin added 9,900 private sector jobs in November, with more than half of those coming from the leisure and hospitality sector, according to data released Thursday by the state Department of Workforce Development.
At the same time, Wisconsin’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3 percent. The state’s civilian labor force declined by 7,400 and the workforce participation rate dropped 0.2 percentage points from October to 68.2 percent.
The jobs data comes from a survey of around 5,500 employers while the workforce data comes from a survey of 985 households and unemployment insurance claims data. Data for the rest of the country is scheduled to be released Friday by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Wisconsin’s leisure and hospitality sector, which includes arts, entertainment, recreation, accommodation and food service, increased seasonally adjusted employment by 5,600 to 290,400, according to the employer data.
That increase accounted for most of the private sector employment increase. Other sectors with large gains included trade, educational and health services and nondurable goods manufacturing.
Results from the October survey were also revised upward from a loss of 1,600 private sector jobs to a loss of just 200.
