Wisconsin added 10,900 private sector jobs in June, and added 49,900 private sector jobs from June 2015 to June 2016, according to the latest U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data reported by the state Department of Workforce Development.
The manufacturing sector in the state added 2,300 jobs in June, construction added 2,100, the leisure and hospitality sector added 5,000 jobs and the financial activities sector added 1,900 jobs.
However, the state’s private sector job growth number for May was revised down to 3,400, from 9,700 as originally reported.
Still, the state added 33,800 in the first half of 2016.
The state lost 5,600 government jobs in June with most of those (5,500) shed by state government.
The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held at 4.2 percent in June. The national unemployment rate for June was 4.9 percent.
The state’s labor force participation rate dipped slightly in June to 68.5 percent, down from 68.7 percent in May.
“As our state economy continues to grow, we need to keep our focus on ensuring Wisconsin employers have access to a robust talent pool to fill their labor market needs,” said Department of Workforce Development Secretary Ray Allen.
