Marquette University has tapped a former employee and the current provost and vice president for academic affairs at Illinois State University to lead its College of Nursing.
Janet Wessel Krejci spent 21 years working in Marquette’s College of Nursing, starting as a research assistant in 1986 and eventually leaving the program as associate dean and coordinator of graduate leadership programs in 2007.
She will assume her new role on Jan. 1, 2017.
“I have been truly blessed to serve in leadership positions at two amazing, mission-driven university communities, Illinois State University and Marquette University,” Krejci said in a statement released by Marquette on Wednesday. “I hadn’t intended to leave ISU at this time, but this wonderful opportunity at Marquette makes it very exciting to return home to Wisconsin, to Marquette and to nursing. I’m looking forward to working side by side with Marquette’s new innovative leadership and the always dedicated, creative, and passionate faculty and staff in the College of Nursing.”
Krejci will replace former dean Margaret Faut Callahan. Callahan left her position at Marquette last year to accept a position as provost for Loyola University Chicago’s health science division.
“We’re really fortunate to welcome Dr. Krejci back to the Marquette family, this time as dean of the College of Nursing,” Marquette University Provost Daniel Myers said. “She has great passion for nursing education and Marquette University, and she’s demonstrated progressive leadership from which the college and the university will benefit immensely.”
Krejci is a fourth-generation Wisconsinite. She earned bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in nursing from the University of Wisconsin — Milwaukee. Her parents, sons and multiple siblings are Marquette University alumni.
