The store, located on 21 acres southeast of Highway 164 and County Highway K at N51 W24953 Lisbon Road, includes a Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin clinic that will provide care for minor health problems and separate gas station and convenience store.

Meijer announced in March the Sussex store would employ 280 people.

Meijer opened its first stores in Wisconsin in 2015 at locations in Kenosha, Grafton, Oak Creek and Wauwatosa. Its store in Sussex will be its fifth to open in Wisconsin.

Another store is under construction in Waukesha and will open late this summer. An official opening date has not yet been released.

The company also has plans to open stores in West Bend, Sheboygan and Greenfield.

“Meijer has made a major commitment to growth in the state of Wisconsin and plans to open two to three additional stores per year through 2020, including potential locations in the Green Bay, Fox Valley, Greenfield, Manitowoc, and Sheboygan area in the next several years,” said a company spokesperson.

Each Meijer store features general merchandise and full grocery departments.

In April, Meijer announced it would partner with Froedtert & MCW to open clinics at the Sussex store as well as its planned store in Waukesha.

The clinics are being added as part of Meijer’s push to expand partnerships with health care providers and hospital systems.

Meijer currently has health clinics in a total of four of its 226 total stores in Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky.

“Our FastCare clinic inside the Meijer store is another way we are simplifying health care by meeting people where they are,” said Dr. Mario Montalbo, who oversees Froedtert & MCW’s FastCare clinics. “If a minor complaint turns out to be serious, the FastCare staff is right there to assist in finding the appropriate care.”

The clinic will open on June 7 to coincide with the opening of the store.
